A comfortable countertop in the kitchen is the key to a happy family

References

This is a joke, although every joke has a grain of truth. Harmony and comfort in the kitchen can easily be breached if the countertop is so tiny that you cannot freely cut on it so as not to hit your elbow on the nearest cabinet.

What is an ideal size for the kitchen countertop?

Through trial and error, observation and analysis, experts in the field of ergonomics have calculated one of the most important parameters for a functional countertop - its length.

A clear area of at least 100 cm is considered a comfortable work zone.

This is enough to put down food, cut meat and remove the pan from the stove.

Often, the kitchen stove is installed in such a way that it divides the countertop into 70-centimetre sections. However, this is not very practical. Try to move the stove to the edge, but not so close to the wall. The distance between the wall and the stove should be at least 5-7 cm.

How to create extra space on the countertop?

  • Even if the kitchen has enough space for a table, you can consider an additional extendable countertop in case you have extra guests joining the home party.
  • You can increase the countertop area by replacing the hob with a narrow one. Reducing the number of burners is suitable not only for bachelors but also for many families with children. However, this is not the right choice for cooking enthusiasts.
  • Use the windowsill - replace it with a countertop and integrate it into the workspace.
  • Move the sink closer to the window - this method is suitable for kitchens with deep window slopes.
